Important note about recording!

Unfortunately we had issues with our recording of this session, so we've decided to include one of Samantha's previous webinars on building suspense. We're sorry if you missed the original session, but hope this will still be helpful.

In this 50 minute webinar, we'll discuss how to use twists, reveals, and red herrings with intentionality to misdirect and hook readers, why interiority is one of the best ways to develop suspense, and what the various types of suspense are and how to use them most effectively. We'll also cover:

- How to avoid the suspense mistakes I see most often as a book coach

- Tips for seeing (and fixing) issues in your own manuscript

This webinar is for fiction writers of all levels, and applies both to writers in the planning stages of a novel-length manuscript, or writers with a full manuscript heading into revision.

A fan of true crime and mysteries of all kinds, Samantha Skal (she/her) is an Author Accelerator certified book coach who specializes in coaching mystery, thriller and suspense authors from novel planning all the way through agent pitching, and especially loves the hell that is revision. She is also an agented thriller author currently working on her debut novel, a serial killer thriller. She is the 2023 Co-Director of PitchFest for Thrillerfest, International Thriller Writers (ITW)'s annual writing conference, and a frequent volunteer mentor for the Women’s Fiction Writers Association (WFWA).An enthusiast of homemade sourdough and cheese of all kinds, she also adores (scary) stories that keep her up at night, and good red wine.
